Recognition Program Launch Kit
Eight practical steps to launch an employee recognition program people actually use, and keep it thriving after week one.
Define your goals
Decide what success looks like before you launch. Common goals include improving retention, lifting engagement scores, reinforcing values, or increasing peer collaboration. Pick one or two primary goals so you can measure impact later.
Secure leadership buy-in
Recognition sticks when leaders model it. Share the business case, turnover savings, engagement, productivity, and ask executives and managers to commit to recognizing people regularly.
Choose your values and awards
Tie recognition to the behaviors you want more of. Define 3 to 6 core values and create award badges for milestones, performance, and culture. Keep the list focused so it stays meaningful.
Set a rewards budget
Decide whether recognition includes tangible rewards, and if so, set a per-employee budget with clear limits. A predictable budget keeps finance comfortable and spending fair across teams.
Pick your channels
Meet employees where they already work. Recognition delivered in Slack, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, or the browser gets far more adoption than a separate tool people have to remember to open.
Plan your launch communication
Announce the program with a clear, upbeat message from leadership. Explain the why, show people how to give recognition, and make the first few days easy with prompts and examples.
Kick off with momentum
Seed early recognition so the feed isn't empty on day one. Encourage managers to recognize a few people right away, and celebrate the first wave publicly to set the tone.
Measure and iterate
Track participation, recognition frequency, and reach by team. Compare against your goals, spot disengaged groups, and adjust reminders, awards, or budgets to keep momentum going.
Launch faster with Recognize
We'll help you go from plan to launch with a platform built for adoption, and reporting that proves the impact.
